Hearing Rehabilitation & Hearing Care

What is Hearing Rehabilitation?

Many people think hearing care begins and ends with hearing aids.

The reality is that hearing rehabilitation is much broader.

Why Choose Hear Room?

With more than 20 years of experience in hearing healthcare, Hear Room provides independent advice that is tailored to you. It is about staying connected with family and friends, participating confidently at work, enjoying the activities you love and maintaining your independence. Understanding Hearing Loss

Hearing loss often develops gradually, making it easy to overlook the early signs. Whether it's asking people to repeat themselves, struggling to follow conversations in noisy places or turning the television up louder than before, these changes can have a real impact on everyday life. The good news is that early assessment and hearing rehabilitation can make a significant difference, helping you stay connected, communicate with confidence and continue enjoying the moments that matter most.

More Ways to Hear Better

Today's hearing technology offers far more than just hearing aids. From advanced hearing aids and Bluetooth® Auracast™ to assistive listening technology, captioning and wireless communication systems, there are now more ways than ever to improve hearing and stay connected. The right solution depends on your hearing, your lifestyle and the environments you spend time in each day.

At Hear Room, we take an independent approach to recommending hearing technology. We consider your communication goals, listening challenges and future needs to help you choose solutions that work together seamlessly. Whether you're looking for hearing aids, technology for work or school, better TV listening, or improved communication in public spaces, we'll help you find the right combination to maximise your hearing and confidence.

Hearing Aid Styles

IIC / CIC

The invisible-in-the-canal is the smallest custom hearing device on the market and is great for those looking for a cosmetically appealing solution.  This can be fitted to mild to moderate hearing loss.

The completely-in-the-canal sits at the entrance of the ear canal and is slightly larger than the IIC but can be fitted for mild to moderately severe hearing loss.

ITC / ITE

The in-the-canaln-the-canaln-the-canal hearing device is custom-made to fit in the entrance of the ear canal and is a popular custom hearing device, due to its size and full functionality.  Can be fitted to mild to moderately severe hearing losses.

The in-the-ear hearing device is custom-made to fit and houses all the electronics in the shell.   It is easy to manage and insert, and popular with people that have dexterity concerns.

RIC / BTE

The receiver-in-the-canal or receiver-in-the-ear device is a small cosmetic device that sits behind the ear and transmits sound via a fine wire to a speaker (receiver) that sits in the ear.  The receiver is held in place by an ear tip or ear mould.  This is one of the most popular devices in the market today.  Can be fitted to mild to severe hearing losses.

The behind-the-ear hearing device houses all electronics in the unit that sits behind the ear and transfers sound via a tube into an ear mould.  This device is robust and easy to maintain with ear wax.  Can be fitted to mild to severe/profound hearing losses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you're noticing changes in your hearing, considering hearing aids for the first time or simply looking for independent advice, we're here to help. Below are some of the questions we're most commonly asked.

What are the early signs of hearing loss?

Hearing loss often develops gradually, so the early signs can be easy to miss. Common symptoms include asking people to repeat themselves, difficulty following conversations in noisy places, turning the television up louder than others prefer and feeling tired after social situations because listening requires more effort. If you've noticed any of these changes, a comprehensive hearing assessment can help identify the cause.

What is hearing rehabilitation?

Hearing rehabilitation is about much more than hearing aids. It is a personalised approach that combines hearing assessments, hearing technology, communication strategies, assistive listening technology and ongoing support to help you communicate with confidence and stay connected to the people and activities that matter most.

Do I need hearing aids?

Not everyone with hearing loss requires hearing aids. Depending on your hearing, lifestyle and communication goals, the most appropriate solution may include hearing rehabilitation, assistive listening technology, communication strategies or medical referral. We'll explain your options and help you make an informed decision.

What happens during a hearing assessment?

our appointment begins with a discussion about your hearing, medical history and listening challenges. We then perform a series of hearing tests to understand how well you hear different sounds and speech. Once complete, we'll explain your results in plain language and discuss the options best suited to your needs.

How long does a hearing assessment take?

Most comprehensive hearing assessments take between 45 and 60 minutes. However we like to take the extra time to really understand your needs so we allow 90 minutes. This allows enough time to complete the assessment, explain the results and answer any questions you may have.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is required to book a hearing assessment. If we identify anything that requires further medical investigation, we can work with your GP or medical specialist to ensure you receive the appropriate care.

What brands of hearing aids do you recommend?

As an independent hearing healthcare provider, we're not tied to a single manufacturer. We recommend hearing aids based on your hearing needs, lifestyle and communication goals, giving you access to solutions from a range of leading manufacturers.

What is Assistive Listening Technology?

Assistive Listening Technology includes devices that improve hearing in situations where hearing aids alone may not be enough. These solutions can include remote microphones, TV listening systems, classroom technology, workplace communication systems, hearing augmentation and Bluetooth® Auracast™ technology.

What is Auracast™?

Auracast™ is the next generation of Bluetooth® audio technology. It allows compatible hearing aids, earbuds and receivers to connect directly to televisions, public announcements, meeting rooms and hearing augmentation systems without the need for traditional hearing loops or additional accessories.

Can hearing loss be treated?

The right treatment depends on the cause of your hearing loss. Some types can be medically treated, while others are managed through hearing rehabilitation, hearing aids and assistive listening technology. Early assessment helps identify the most appropriate pathway for you.

Do you work with children and schools?

Yes. Hear Room provides hearing screenings, educational audiology services, classroom hearing solutions and assistive listening technology to support children, families, educators and schools across a wide range of learning environments. If you need a full diagnostic children assessment we can refer you to the relevant services.

Do you provide workplace hearing solutions?

Absolutely. We help individuals and organisations improve communication through hearing technology, captioning, assistive listening systems and hearing augmentation for meeting rooms, offices and public spaces.

Can you help if I already have hearing aids?

Yes. Many people seek independent advice because they're not getting the most from their current hearing aids. We can assess your hearing, review your technology and recommend adjustments, accessories or additional solutions that may improve your listening experience.
